FAQ

  1. What are the advantages of switching to LED lights?

LEDs are one of today’s most energy-efficient and rapidly-developing lightning technologies. They draw 260% less energy from your car’s electrical system and can last up to 30,000 hours. LEDs shine much brighter than other types of lights and do so in a more efficient manner - the lighting output can be pointed towards a specific direction. LED lights use diodes encased in a plastic shell that can stand up to extreme vibration, temperatures, and shock.

  1. What is CAN-bus?

CAN-bus is a Controller Area Network Bus that allows the vehicle’s devices to communicate with each other. The system is commonly found in European cars such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen and in some newer American vehicles. The CAN-bus system monitors your vehicle and reports any operating changes.

  1. The headlights / fog lights flicker and give me an error code on the dashboard as soon as I turn them on.

LED bulbs draw far less power than stock factory bulbs. The vehicle’s CAN-bus system detects the low power draw and determines that the LED bulb is faulty or doesn’t recognize the bulb at all – resulting in the error or flickering.

Load Resistors should be installed to increase the power draw resembling that of the factory bulbs to resolve the issue.

  1. There is an error message on the dashboard saying my interior and exterior LED lights are out / not working.

The error is a result of the CAN-bus system not being able to recognize the LED light bulbs. We have bulbs with built-in CAN-bus decoders that will resolve the issue.

  1. My turn signals are blinking faster than normal.

This is an issue known as “hyper-flashing” and is very common when upgrading turn signals to LED bulbs. Since LED bulbs are more efficient than regular halogen bulbs, this will cause a sudden drop in the circuit’s resistance causing the hyper-flash or rapid blinking.

Installing Load Resistors will increase the power draw resembling that of the factory bulbs and resolve the hyper-flashing.

  1. The LED lights fit but they do not turn on.

Some bulbs are polarity specific and need to be installed a certain way. Simply flip the bulb 180 degrees.

  1. The LED lights stay on very dimly although the car is turned off and the key has been removed.

This is a normal occurrence and won’t drain your car’s battery. The vehicle’s CAN-bus system is constantly sending out tiny currents to make sure all electrical devices are still working.

The LED lights require such little power draw to operate compared to other lights that they stay on even after the vehicle has been turned off.

  1. I have error free LED bulbs, but they still throw an error on the dashboard.

Try the steps below to make sure there is no error message:

  1. Take out the LED bulb and replace it with the stock bulb, turn on the vehicle, and confirm if the error message is cleared.

  1. Turn off the vehicle and re-install the LED bulbs (make sure it is the correct side of polarity or else the vehicle will record the error message again). If the LED bulb is installed, but the polarity is incorrect, you will have to start the troubleshoot again from step one (1).

  1. Close all the doors (trunk and hood if open as well), lock the vehicle and then unlock, and wait 10-15 seconds. After this period, start up the car and turn on the lights to check for the error message. This is a strange procedure to do, but what we have found in the past is that it does work out well for majority of the vehicles we’ve dealt with.

If the troubleshoot above still does not work, please contact us and we’ll find an alternative solution to the problem.

  1. The load resistors get extremely hot.

Load Resistors are built to dissipate the heat caused by holding back power that would otherwise be pushed to the LED lights. Much like a light bulb the resistors are going to become hot to the point of being uncomfortable to touch and must be mounted to a metal surface.

If the load resistors are discoloring surfaces around it, bubbling paint or melting things around it then they need to be replaced.

  1. My vehicle already has factory LED bulbs, can I still replace them with aftermarket LED bulbs?

No, if the vehicle’s factory lights are already LEDs they cannot be replaced with aftermarket LEDs.

  1. How do the switchback lights work?

Switchback LED lights support two filaments that have different colors and light intensities. Our switchback LEDs use the color White for Daytime Running Lights and switch over to Amber/Yellow for the Turn Signals.

  1. My headlights and daytime running lights flicker a few times then shut off completely  after turning them on for the first time. I also get an error on the dashboard.

This is a known issue with American cars, mainly trucks from Dodge, Chevrolet, GMC, and Ram. Decoders are needed to resolve the issue. With LED lights and their low power draw, a decoder is used to mimic the way the factory bulbs behave.

  1. The headlights are too long and I’m unable to put the dust cover back on.

LED headlights are a little longer and wider than stock factory bulbs, especially if they have a fan. There are companies on the Internet that sell dust covers made specifically for LED lights and come in different sizes.

  1. Are your interior LED bulbs the same width and length as the factory bulbs?

Please take out the stock bulbs and check if there is enough space for the wider festoon LED bulbs. Some vehicle manufacturers will wield the light fixture just big enough for the stock bulbs. We include our bulb dimensions in the description and pictures.
